BACHELOR IN HOTEL MANAGEMENT
& CATERING TECHNOLOGY

Course Objective

The 4-year Bachelor in Hotel Management program equips students with all the required skills, knowledge and attitude to efficiently discharge supervisory responsibilities in the Hospitality sector. The program also involves in-depth laboratory work for students to acquire required knowledge and skills standards in the operational areas of Food Production, Food and Beverage Service, Front Office Operation and House Keeping. The program imparts substantial management inputs in area such as Sales and Marketing, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Hotel and Catering Law, Property Management, Entrepreneurship Development, Computers with special focus on Tourism Studies.

APPROVAL AND AFFILIATION : Approved by AICTE and affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology ( WBUT )

Course Duration: 4 years (8 Semester) - Full time

Eligibility: Passed/appearing in 10+2 or equivalent examination in any stream with English as one of the subjects and DSMS-MAT qualified.

AGE :22 years and 25 years for SC/ST/OBC.

Subjects: Front Office, Food Production, House Keeping and Laundry Operation, Food and Beverage Service, Food Science & Nutrition, Safety & First Aid, Personality and Communication Development ,House Keeping Hygiene & Sanitation, French, Engineering, Computer Applications, Advanced Accounts, Hotel Economics, Human Resource Planning & Development, Catering & F&B Management, Travel and Tourism Management, Marketing Management ,Advance Engineering.

Personal and Industrial Law, Area of Specialization (Travel and Tourism Management, Sales and Marketing, Computer, Project Preparation, Management Technique), Environmental Studies and Facilities Planning.

Teaching Mode and Aids:Beside theory and practical classes, seminars and workshops are conducted from time to time. Guest lecturers from different Industry and academicians are appointed as and when required. OHP, LCD Projector, PA System is used in the theory as well as practical classes.

Teaching Hours : 36 hours per week

Examination and Evaluation:The course comprises of 08 semester . The final examination of each semester is conducted and evaluated by West Bengal University of Technology. Semester and Internal Test Slot Examinations are held as per WBUT norms and schedule. However periodical mock class test, mock seminars, practical tests are held for continuous evaluation and development of the students throughout the year.

Academic Excellence :The students from our first batch of BHMCT (session 2003-07) has bagged four top ten positions in the WBUT exam, which includes the Gold and Silver medals.

Seminar and Workshop :Following the modern global standards of education, DSMS hosts many multi-skills oriented workshops and value-based seminars. These seminars/workshops provide exposure to the students, which enable them to nurture the skills needed to excel in the related fields. Short-term training programs help them to acquire practical knowledge/experience.

  • Delay in payment of any installment will incur a penalty of 5%.
  • If the payment is due over one month, the name of the student will be struck off from the roll and he/she has to take readmission.
